ETERNAL DESCENT Announces Second Guitarist
October 17, 2008UK metallers ETERNAL DESCENT have announced the addition of second guitarist Robert Sutherland (Chapman).
"I have always been a huge fan of instrumental metal, especially the playing of Marty Friedman and Alex Skolnick," Sutherland — whose playing was allegedly described by MEGADETH's James Lomenzo as "fiery and mesmerizing" — said in a statement. "When I first heard ETERNAL DESCENT, it just got me excited about music in a way that I hadn't been for a long time. It is an honor to be joining forces with such a skilled musician as Llexi Leon, who despite his obvious natural ability for composition and his insane technical ability, manages to remain humble and focused on what has become our goal of writing the best fusion of gothic, metal, ambient, and industrial ever."
Sutherland leaves behind his band of five years, THE BLACK HAND, and dives straight into the recording of ETERNAL DESCENT's second album, where he will be adding a strong rhythm element along with scorching counterpoint riffs and harmony lines.
"Llexi seemed to be around every corner I looked," added Sutherland, "whether it was endorsing Orange Amplifiers and Faith Guitars alongside me or melting faces on MySpace with his technically superb neo classical metal. We had been working together on a few projects including a guitar tuition DVD in which I had asked him to cameo. When we discussed collaborating on ETERNAL DESCENT, I knew I had to give it my full attention. It was a simple decision to make despite leaving my current band of five years, who had just finished a successful UK tour. I'm elated to be a part of ETERNAL DESCENT, and I can't wait to take this show live. It's just going to be epic".
Sutherland is a London guitar institute graduate and has performed at sessions for Universal Records UK. He also worked on the Yngwie Malmsteen master class DVD and the Jimi Hendrix Monterey DVD, both released by Universal Records. Sutherland has over 1,400 YouTube subscribers and receives in excess of 4,000 video views per day on his YouTube channel.
